Sky Sports commentator Martin Tyler says Leicester City midfielder Wilfried Ndidi would be an excellent signing for the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United or Chelsea.
The Nigerian international has not been linked with the Reds recently, unlike his teammate Youri Tielemans, but Tyler believes England’s top clubs should not be overlooking the 24-year-old’s talent:
“I think any other team would sign him, that’s the best compliment that I can pay him. Any of the four teams above Leicester would sign him, he’s that effective at what he does. His stats are superb, he does it without upsetting referees too much, you know he gets the ball strongly and fairly, and that’s where everything starts from, you’ve got to have the ball to win the game, and he’s a great retriever of possession, and he’s a footballer as well. He’s not just a tackler. I think he’s absolutely top drawer.”
While Ndidi would not be a direct replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum, he certainly possesses a lot of similar attributes to the Dutchman. He is arguably not as strong in the final third, but he has some standout defensive traits, which would undoubtedly be harnessed by manager Jurgen Klopp.
With all that being said, though, the Nigerian’s price tag is probably way too much for Liverpool. Borussia Monchengladbach’s Florian Neuhaus is the player who has been most heavily linked in recent days, while other names such as Brighton’s Yves Bissouma, Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez and Port’s Fabio Vieira have also been mentioned.
