Goal‘s Liverpool correspondent Neil Jones believes midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will have to “consider” leaving Anfield next summer if his playing situation doesn’t improve.

The former Arsenal player has been linked with a move away from Merseyside in recent weeks, and Jones claims that speculation will increase as he reaches the final twelve months of his contract:

“He’ll have a year left at the end of this season so Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is in a position where something needs to move. He either needs to become a Liverpool player who plays a lot and he gets a new contract or he needs to consider his options.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain could well be in Liverpool’s starting lineup when Jurgen Klopp’s side take on Watford this afternoon. With Thiago, Curtis Jones and Fabinho all missing, he will be vying for a place in midfield, along with Naby Keita, James Milner and captain Jordan Henderson.

The 28-year-old may not get many better opportunities to prove himself, especially with so many players out of contention. However, since returning from a knee injury midway through last season, the midfielder has failed to impress, and if he doesn’t make an impact in the coming weeks and months, he could be set to leave the club at the end of the season.
