Leicester midfielder Youri Tielemans is not currently being tracked by Liverpool, according to CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs.
The Reds, along with Manchester United and Arsenal have been linked with the Belgian international over the past year but Jacobs says any reported interest from Jurgen Klopp’s side is wide of the mark:
“He was speculatively linked with Liverpool a few months back and there’s no truth in that whatsoever. Liverpool are not interested in him, no bid, not looking at him. Definitely not on their radar for January. But I don’t see Tielemans staying at Leicester and if they want a fee for him, somebody has the opportunity to come in for him in January with a big offer and try and wrestle him. He wants to stay in the Premier League.”
It would be a surprise if Liverpool are not, at least, keeping tabs on Tielemans. The 24-year-old has only eighteen months left on his contract and will likely be sold next summer if he doesn’t sign a new deal.
With James Milner expected to leave Anfield at the end of the season, and the fact that both Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will have just twelve months left on their contracts, there would be space to bring in Tielemans.
However, it seems Arsenal may well be the frontrunners for the Belgian currently, with Jacobs claiming that Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is a big admirer of the player. We shall see who ends up signing him.
