Liverpool have made an “initial enquiry” for PSV Eindhoven forward Donyell Malen, according to The Athletic‘s Reds correspondent James Pearce.

The former Liverpool Echo journalist has, though, rejected claims that the Merseyside club are actively pursuing the former Arsenal player, who is valued at around £30m.

In fact, it is believed that Borussia Dortmund are very much in the “box seat” to sign Malen, as they step up their attempts to replace Jadon Sancho, who is on the verge of joining Manchester United.

This is the first time that a respected reporter in England has confirmed Liverpool’s interest in the Dutch international, with the majority of the claims having emanated from either Germany or Holland previously.

It does demonstrate that Jurgen Klopp’s side are actively looking to strengthen their forward line this summer, although, from the looks of things, a deal for Malen seems to be very unlikely at this stage.
