Former Borussia Dortmund forward Michael Rummenigge claims he can see Erling Haaland moving to Liverpool if he leaves the Bundesliga next summer.

A release clause will come into effect at the end of the season, which would allow the Norwegian to leave Dortmund for €75m (£64m), and Rummenigge says a move to Anfield could happen:

“We’ll have to wait and see where he goes after this season. Real and Barcelona have financial problems, so I could imagine him moving to England. His father used to play there too. I could well imagine Liverpool for Haaland.”

Supporters on Twitter were rather dismissive of Rummenigge’s comments, with many saying that the Reds won’t be able to afford Haaland:

In addition to the £64m fee, there are also Haaland’s wages to consider, as well as the agent costs incurred by Mino Raiola. On top of the competition from the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City, it does seem like an uphill battle.

However, Rummenigge is right to say that Barcelona and Real Madrid are unlikely to be in contention due to their financial situation. With Chelsea also out of the running after signing Romelu Lukaku, the number of clubs that Haaland could realistically join is rather small, so Liverpool may still have a glimmer hope in terms of signing the 21-year-old.
