Ex-Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino believes Conor Gallagher’s style of play would make him a good signing for Liverpool.

The England international has performed well whilst out on loan at Crystal Palace this season but there have been question marks over whether he will be part of Thomas Tuchel’s plans when he returns to Stamford Bridge this summer. Cascarino believes, however, that while Gallagher would be a perfect fit for Liverpool, he can’t see Chelsea allowing him to make the switch to Anfield:

“Conor Gallagher is an outstanding attacking midfielder who always looks like he’s going to get a goal or make an assist. I like him because I don’t think there are too many of his type around. Liverpool, for me, if they had a player like that as well adding him behind their front three – with his ability to get goals.”

“Chelsea would never sell him to Liverpool, but they’d do really well with him. Conor Gallagher will get goals. Whether or not he will get his chance at Chelsea, I don’t know. No one at Chelsea can do what he does. But it depends if Thomas Tuchel wants to play that kind of player in his system. I hope he does give him a chance.”

Even if you do disregard the fact that Chelsea would refuse to sell to a direct rival, the Reds don’t generally shell out large sums on players like Gallagher.

The 22-year-old is certainly a great young talent but, it would take more than one good season to convince the Merseyside club’s recruitment team that he is worth a sizeable eight-figure summer. If they do go after a midfielder this summer, it will be someone who probably has a lot lower profile.
