Hertha Berlin sporting director Fredi Bobic has not ruled out Matheus Cunha leaving the Bundesliga club in the summer.

The Brazilian has been linked with both Liverpool and Leeds in recent days but, Bobic says that, while the club are under no pressure to sell, the player may still want to leave:

“I’m glad he’s with us and doesn’t have a [release] clause. Whether he will play the future with us, we’ll have to see. I can’t say right now whether he’s happy that he wants to stay here.”

Cunha was actually linked with a move to Chelsea last year, when his value was only €20m, but it is now believed that the 22-year-old could be sold for around €40m (£34m).

It is surprising that the forward’s valuation has doubled over the past 12 months, considering his form for Hertha has been patchy. He started last season like a house on fire, scoring six goals and providing two assists in his first ten league games.

However, Cunha managed just one more goal in the remaining league fixtures, so it seems Liverpool’s interest may well be based on his potential and what he may do in the future.
