Ajax winger Antony was sent off during the 3-2 win over Feyenoord at the weekend. The Brazilian scored the winner five minutes before full-time but was booked for his celebration after taking off his shirt.

The 22-year-old then picked up a second yellow card, leading to one Dutch pundit, Rene van der Gijp, asking whether the likes of Liverpool will be thinking twice about making a bid for the player:

“Suppose we are in the stands together as a scout for Manchester City or Liverpool… And we are looking at Antony, what do you think we would say when we come back on Monday [after the game]? We will not take that. You don’t see a Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sane or Mohamed Salah doing this? Then you can say: he is young, but it can also get crazier.”

Antony has been linked with Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea, with the player increasing speculation about his future last month when he revealed that he would be open to a Premier League switch.

He has been in very good form this season, scoring 12 goals and contributing 10 assists in 33 appearances for Ajax and, with a reported price tag of €40m (£33m), he could well tempt the Reds and other clubs into making an offer this summer.

Some believe Antony could be a potential replacement for Mo Salah, but van der Gijp suggests the Brazilian international’s behavourial problems mean he has a long way to go before he can measure up to the Egyptian’s standards.
