Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has missed out on the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month award for January.

Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold took the accolade, beating De Bruyne and the likes of West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen, Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse, Leeds’ Jack Harrison and Wolves’ Joao Moutinho:

De Bruyne managed one goal and one assist in the three league matches he played last month, and fans on Twitter feel he was a more deserving winner than Alexander-Arnold:

There isn’t a lot in it when you look at the numbers, with Alexander-Arnold having managed two assists and no goals in his three league games. However, voters may have been influenced by his contribution in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final versus Arsenal where the Liverpool right-back provided two more assists.

Strictly speaking, supporters were supposed to be voting on league performances only but it’s clear that match may have played a role in De Bruyne being overlooked.
