Former Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku is one of three forwards that Manchester City are considering as they weigh up potential replacements for Sergio Aguero, according to reports.

Lukaku left Old Trafford eighteen months ago but has since gone on to score 51 goals in 73 games for Inter Milan and it seems his excellent scoring record has led the Citizens to look at bringing him back to England.

Pep Guardiola’s side have also added Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland and Benfica’s Darwin Nunez to their shortlist, as they begin lining up Aguero’s potential successor at the Etihad Stadium.

There is some surprise that the Argentinian international has yet to be offered a new deal, with his contract set to expire in June, but it is claimed that City want the striker to prove his fitness before deciding on his future.

If Aguero is allowed to leave, replacing someone of his stature will require a significant investment and City reportedly have a transfer kitty close to £200m in order to strengthen the squad.
