Former Arsenal star Ray Parlour has backed Manchester City to make a bid for Aston Villa attacking midfielder Jack Grealish.

There were reports last week that the Citizens were after the 25-year-old following his excellent performances for club and country and despite recently signing a new deal with his current club back in September, Parlour feels that Grealish may be on the move:

“Villa have done their job by signing him to a long-term contract. So if anyone wants to buy him they are going to have to pay the money, and Villa have got a good investment. But I wouldn’t put it past Man City… someone like Jack Grealish, the way he is playing, the age he is – that would be a good signing for Man City.”

Manager Pep Guardiola has expressed his admiration for Grealish in the past, saying he is an “incredible” talent, so City’s interest in the England international is likely to be genuine. However, the Spaniard has also claimed that the midfielder would be “too expensive” to buy.

Reports suggest that he is valued at £70m so the club would probably have to break their transfer record in order to sign the playmaker.

Grealish has also been linked with City’s rivals Manchester United over the past year and it remains to be seen whether any team will look to prise him away from Villa Park when the transfer window opens in January.
