Manchester City have “tabled” a £238,000 a week contract offer to Bayern Munich defender David Alaba, according to AS.

The Madrid based publication claims the Citizens’ proposal is the “most generous” salary that the Austrian international has received so far, with the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain also involved.

However, Real Madrid remain the frontrunners for Alaba’s signature. Although the La Liga champions have only offered a wage of £187,000 a week, they have decided not to trump City’s proposal.

It means the Spanish club are hoping the 28-year-old’s desire to move to Bernabeu will outweigh any financial considerations. Various reports over the past few months have suggested that the Austrian is more interested in a switch to Spain than the Premier League.

AS claim that Alaba is likely to make a decision on his future in April or May at the latest before his contract expires with Bayern at the end of June.
