Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne is among the nominees for the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year.

The Belgian international, who played a key role in helping the Citizens reach the Champions League final last season, has been nominated alongside Chelsea pair Jorginho and N’Golo Kante.

With Pep Guardiola going up against Chelsea’s Thomas Tuchel and Italy manager Roberto Mancini for the Coach of the Year prize, the Manchester club’s achievements have certainly been given some recognition by UEFA.

Of course, while De Bruyne and Guardiola will be pleased to have been shortlisted for the awards, there will be some regret in terms of not being able to secure the club’s first European Cup, despite their superb run to the final.

Both men are undoubtedly determined to go one better this campaign. The draw for the group stages of the Champions League takes place next Thursday, when the Player of the Year and Coach of the Year will also be announced,
