Manchester City will not make a move for Sporting Lisbon left-back Nuno Mendes this summer, according to reports in the Portuguese media.

The Citizens have been heavily linked with the teenager in recent months, but the 18-year-old is now unlikely to be sold in the coming weeks, with a transfer in the 2022 January transfer window being suggested instead.

Manchester United, Liverpool and Real Madrid are also said to be keen on Mendes but, like City, they are not expected to make bids for the fullback anytime soon.

Manager Pep Guardiola is said to be keen on strengthening his options on the left-hand side of defence but there are other priorities in the transfer market.

City are lining up moves for Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish, and the total sum of those two transfers will easily exceed £200m. There is unlikely to be any money left to sign someone like Mendes, who is reportedly valued at €60m (£52m) by Sporting. Things, however, may be different when January comes around.
