AC Milan are lining up a new contract for left-back Theo Hernandez, amid interest from Manchester City, according to Calciomercato.com.

It was reported last week that the Citizens were keen on snapping up the Frenchman but Milan’s technical director Paolo Maldini wants to triple the defender’s wages in order to persuade him into staying at the San Siro.

Hernandez, who has also been on Chelsea and Manchester United’s radar in the past, is said to be earning just €1.5m a season. However, that could increase to €4.5m (around £73,000 a week) were he to commit his future to the Serie A club.

That figure could be trumped by City, though, and Calciomercato claim that Milan may still be open to selling the 23-year-old if Pep Guardiola’s side are ready to pay around €65m (£55m) to €70m (£60m).

It remains to be seen whether such an asking price would put off the Citizens from making a bid. They are expected to be in the market to replace Benjamin Mendy when the transfer window reopens in the New Year but it would be a significant investment to bring in Hernandez.
