Former Manchester City defender Danny Mills believes Tottenham could agree to sell Harry Kane to the Citizens if Spurs can secure the signature of Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku.
The Belgian is the Blues’ record signing but he has been benched by manager Thomas Tuchel in recent weeks, suggesting the player could well be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge. With Tottenham boss Antonio Conte having worked with the striker at Inter, Mills believes the Italian may be happy to swap Kane for Lukaku:
“Pep [Guardiola] has said that he wants a centre-forward. Let’s say Kane’s available and Kane goes. Then Conte may want Lukaku. That might seem a little bit far fetched but he’s not overly happy there. They have also got a myriad of issues going on at the club. He loves Conte, Conte knows how well he can play and knows how to get the best out of him.”
It is well-documented that Guardiola is a big fan of Kane but, after failing to secure his signature last summer, City are seemingly switching their attention to other targets.
Reports last week claimed that the Premier League champions are now in pole position to snap up Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund and, if a deal for the Norwegian international is finalised, City’s pursuit of Kane will come to an end.
