Manchester City foursome Ruben Dias, Ilkay Gundogan, Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden have all been nominated for the PFA Player of the Year award.

Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes have also been shortlisted, but the presence of so many City players shows how impressive Pep Guardiola’s side have been, particularly since the start of the calendar year.

Foden is probably the most surprising name, considering he only started 17 Premier League games, but his impressive displays have undoubtedly left a strong impression on his fellow professionals. The 21-year-old is also up for the Young Player of the Year so he will be the favourite for that prize.

Out of the other players, the two standouts are probably Dias and Gundogan. The former, especially, has been a revelation since he arrived from Benfica in the summer, transforming a shaky backline into the best defence in the league.

Gundogan, meanwhile, has somehow morphed into a goalscoring midfielder this season, and his excellent form was deservedly recognised with his nomination. The winner will be announced on Friday.
