Trusted Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has revealed that Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger will join either Manchester City, Tottenham, Juventus or Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
The German international’s contract at Stamford Bridge expires next June and negotiations over an extension have stalled, with the centre-back reportedly demanding pay parity with teammates Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku. Di Marzio says the 28-year-old is destined to leave the Blues at the end of the season:
“Rudiger is in talks with Juventus, Man City, Tottenham and even PSG who still need a defender. It’s difficult for him to sign a new contract. He will join one of the 4 named teams.”
It is surprising to see that City are heavily involved in the battle to sign Rudiger. While there is no doubt about the defender’s quality, the Premier League champions already have four senior centre-halves in the first-team squad.
Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte have been almost flawless so far this campaign, while John Stones and Nathan Ake are waiting in the wings to come in as and when manager Pep Guardiola needs them.
Rudiger has yet to make up his mind on who he will sign for but we will likely hear more about his future in the coming weeks and months.
