Glenn Hoddle now believes that Chelsea, rather than Manchester City are now the top team in the Premier League.
The former England manager had made City favourites to retain their title this campaign but, after witnessing Chelsea demolish Spurs yesterday, Hoddle has had a change of heart:
“They are the best team in the country, there is no doubt about it, at this moment in time. Reversing it, I thought City were going to be the team to knock off the top. I think it’s Chelsea now. I think City have got a lot of work to do. They play each other next week and it is a hell of a game. I think it is Chelsea, actually, who are going to be in control. Who is going to knock them off their pedestal?”
Hoddle does seem to be rather fickle in terms of changing his opinion. City may well have put in a poor performance against Southampton at the weekend, but that doesn’t mean they’ve turned into a bad side overnight.
They have beaten the likes of Arsenal and RB Leipzig comprehensively in recent weeks, while they secured a tough away win against Leicester as well.
Of course, they will have to perform very well to overcome Chelsea, but we have seen the Citizens step up to the plate on numerous occasions in the past. They do have some injuries at the moment, but you wouldn’t put it past Pep Guardiola’s side getting a victory against their title rivals on Saturday.
