Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has all but ruled out Sergio Aguero from starting against United in the Carabao Cup semi-final this evening.

The Spaniard has confirmed that the striker is not “completely fit” and he is now deliberating about who should be selected as the ‘false-nine’ for the derby clash:

“We don’t have strikers. Gabriel and Ferran have Covid, Raheem [Sterling] can play there but I prefer to play him wider instead of a central position. We don’t have much alternative. Sergio is still not completely fit.”

Supporters on Twitter are scratching their heads over Aguero’s fitness situation. He came on for the last five minutes of the win against Chelsea and they are asking why he won’t be able to play more of a role tonight:

It is not known exactly what the fitness issue is with Aguero but the Argentinian international has suggested recently that he is still managing a knee problem.

Whether the 32-year-old will be able to start a match soon, we shall have to wait and see, but it appears the best that City fans can hope for against United is a substitute appearance from him in the second half at Old Trafford.
