Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta has admitted that Manchester City were the much better team as the Citizens secured an excellent 1-0 away victory at Stamford Bridge at the weekend.

Pep Guardiola’s side were on top for most of the match and, truth be told, should have won by a more comfortable margin. After the game, Azpilicueta was big enough to say their opponents were simply too good:

“We are disappointed with the result, it was not our best performance. Especially in the first 60 minutes, it was hard to get out. We didn’t create chances, we lost the ball too easily. They dominated us.”

“After the goal, we had a good reaction, we pushed a bit but it was not enough to get something from the game. Sometimes when you play against tough opponents they play well, they are that their best level.”

Supporters on Twitter complimented Azpilicueta for being so honest, and they hope the display will send out a warning to other teams:

It’s a fantastic start to what is an extremely tough stretch of away fixtures. City face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League tomorrow night before taking on Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday evening.

If they play close to the levels they showed on Saturday against Chelsea, you would back them to get three wins out of three but it will be a tough ask, considering how difficult it is to replicate those types of performances every few days.

With the squad that Guardiola has assembled, though, there is every chance they can pull off another couple of excellent results.
