Former Chelsea and Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole claims Manchester City do have the “better squad” when it comes to a straight comparison between the two title contenders.
However, while Cole feels the Citizens may have the edge in terms of player quality, the BT Sport pundit says that Liverpool’s mentality could also play a crucial role in the title race:
“I think Manchester City have the better squad. But I think Liverpool have the momentum. At this time of the year, they have that mindset where I can’t see them getting beat.”
People do seem to have pretty short memories. Three years ago, City won FOURTEEN league games in a row to secure the 2019 Premier League title by one point.
Of course, Liverpool pushed Pep Guardiola’s side all the way but there isn’t any real difference between the two teams when it comes to mental strength.
City will likely shrug off their FA Cup semi-final defeat pretty easily, considering the exceptional circumstances around the match, and you would back them to put in a strong performance against Brighton tomorrow night, to maintain their advantage at the top of the table.
