Ex-Manchester United striker Michael Owen is expecting Manchester City to come out on top against his former club when the two sides meet at Old Trafford tomorrow.

The Citizens have recovered after a poor start to the season and look to be in good form at the moment. Looking ahead to the derby, Owen feels that while United will be a threat on the counter-attack, he believes Pep Guardiola’s side will take the three points:

“With Manchester United so inconsistent, it’s very hard to get a handle on what to expect every time they play. For City it’s been a lot steadier, having hit form after a shaky start. It’s likely they’ll have most of the possession here, which interestingly could suit United.”

“Ole Gunnar Solkjaer’s side are far more suited to playing on the counter but with City in a far better place just now, I think this will end with a win for the blue half of Manchester.”

After United crashed out of Europe on Tuesday night, Solskjaer’s men are hardly likely to be in a good frame of mind heading into this weekend’s game but, as Owen points out, they are very inconsistent.

City will need to be wary of the threat posed by the likes of Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood on the counter-attack but, with Ruben Dias helping to marshal a more resilient backline, you would hope that the away side will have more than enough to come away with a win.
