Ex-Liverpool striker Michael Owen is expecting his former club to narrowly beat Manchester City when the two sides face off at the Etihad this evening.

The Citizens and the Reds are closely matched, but Owen feels that the away side’s greater attacking threat will be what wins the game for them:

“This game could go either way, but I’m going for Liverpool. I think they’re going into this with a bit more momentum than City and they have a little bit more attacking spark and threat.”

Owen has gone with a 2-1 victory for Liverpool, which is not a surprising prediction considering his past association with the Merseysiders.

The former England international is correct in saying that it will be a tight contest, but you do have to question whether Liverpool’s firepower will be what proves decisive.

Nobody should underestimate City’s strength in the final third of the pitch and they are equally capable at the back. These two sides could well cancel each other out if they do line up as expected. With City being the home team, though, you would think that could be enough to give them the edge and secure a crucial win.
