The Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has submitted proposals to the Cabinet Office that would allow supporters to return to Premier League stadiums in reduced numbers as early as next month, according to the Daily Mail.

The UK government are planning a new four-tier system when the current lockdown in England ends on December 2nd, and the DCMS are proposing that any team playing in tier 1 or tier 2 restrictions (which will be applied to areas where infection rates are low) could play in front of fans.

Although the proposals have yet to be approved, it would be a big step forward for English football. Cinemas and arenas have been able to open in limited capacities previously but, until now, no exceptions have been made for football stadiums.

Full houses will still not be permitted, but it would be a big boost even if a limited number of supporters are allowed inside the ground for the lead up until Christmas and the second half of the Premier League season.
