Borussia Monchengladbach head coach Adi Hutter claims there is still a chance that Denis Zakaria could extend his contract with the Bundesliga side.

The Swiss international’s current deal expires at the end of next season, but when asked whether an extension could happen, Hutter replied:

“That is also possible… if you come up with an offer that makes sense for everyone involved.”

Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal have all been credited with an interest in Zakaria over the past couple of years, but a knee injury sustained at the beginning of 2020 has halted his progress.

The 24-year-old was only a bit-part player for Switzerland at the European Championships and his stock has dropped significantly, with reports back in March claiming that Gladbach would be prepared to offload him this summer for just €20m (£17m).

With his contract now within the final twelve months, though, that figure could still be too high for potential suitors. City do have a long-standing interest in Zakaria so if he does pick up form this campaign, they may yet revive a move him.
