Tottenham have made a €47m (£40m) offer for Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus, according to reports in the Italian media.

Over the weekend, it was claimed that Arsenal had held talks with the Brazilian international’s agent, Marcelo Pettinati, about personal terms ahead of a potential switch to the Emirates.

Jesus is currently being paid £110,000 a week by City but the Gunners are looking to offer the striker almost double that amount, approximately £190,000 a week.

Whether Spurs’s reported bid will change the situation, we shall have to wait and see. City may well be looking for a fee above £40m, with some suggesting that an asking price of €55m (£47m) has been set.

The North London club’s proposal may, though, still prove to be higher than Arsenal’s, with the Gunners said to be only prepared to pay £35m. It does suggest that this could be a lengthy transfer saga, with plenty of twists and turns before a conclusion is reached.
