Garth Crooks has named Manchester United trio Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba and Mason Greenwood in his Premier League team of the week.
All three players created or assisted goals in the 5-1 hammering of rivals Leeds on Saturday, and Crooks was particularly effusive in his praise of Greenwood:
“Mason Greenwood had two of the best touches you will ever see on the run and then, with his third touch, buried the most glorious pass from Pogba into the net. I’ve seen Denis Law, Frank Stapleton, Mark Hughes and Andy Cole lead the line for Manchester United, but not at 19. I can’t decide if the game has got easier or Greenwood’s got better. What I do know is the teenager took his goal brilliantly.”
The 19-year-old is a really exciting prospect and it will be interesting to see if he can make the number nine position his own in the first few months of the season.
Pogba and Fernandes were equally impressive, and if both midfielders can keep up the type of form they showed on the opening day, United will certainly be in the reckoning for the title.
In terms of the rest of Crooks’ team, he picked three Liverpool players in Alisson, Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah, two Spurs stars in Japhet Tanganga and Son Heung-Min, Chelsea duo Trevoh Cholobah and Marcos Alonso, as well as Everton’s Richarlison.
