Manchester United’s first written offer of €45m (£38.5m) for Raphael Varane was rejected by Real Madrid, according to reports in the Spanish media.

The La Liga side are said to be demanding closer to €70m (£59.84m) which puts the two sides €25m (£21.4m) apart in their valuations of the player.

Some fans on Twitter are not happy that Real are asking for so much, considering Varane has under one year left on his contract at the Bernabeu, while others believe a compromise will be reached between the two clubs:

€70m seems excessive considering Varane’s contract situation but United won’t want talks to drag on for too long as there are believed to be other teams interested in the Frenchman.

Both Chelsea and Manchester City have made informal enquiries about the defender this summer, while Paris Saint-Germain have also been tipped to make a move for the 28-year-old in recent weeks.
