Former Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte would be open to becoming Manchester United manager, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The very reliable Italian journalist was responding to reports linking the 52-year-old with the Arsenal job, but the reporter dismissed those claims, suggesting that the Red Devils would be a more attractive proposition:

“He would only accept a winning project. So I don’t think he would accept Arsenal and that is why he said no to Tottenham. I think he would only accept if say Manchester United called.”

There are currently no suggestions that United are even considering replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The board handed the Norwegian a new three-year contract back in July.

However, after some questionable tactical decisions in the shock loss to Young Boys in the Champions League, some pundits, including Paul Scholes, have started questioning Solskjaer’s ability.

Results will, of course, determine whether rumours about a replacement will proliferate. Conte is currently out of work after leaving Inter Milan at the end of last season and, especially with his track record, the Italian will inevitably be linked with every team looking for a new manager
