Real Madrid and Barcelona are interested in signing Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani when the transfer window reopens in January, according to reports in Spain.
The Uruguayan is believed to be unhappy at his reduced game time since the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo and the two La Liga clubs are willing to take the forward on a short-term loan deal.
Supporters on Twitter would be surprised if Cavani is keen on moving to Spain, especially as it has been claimed that the 34-year-old wants to return home next summer:
does not make sense, since Cavani’s aim was to go back to South America

He’s our best pressing forward & still has goals in him would be a bad decision to let him go in January

Hes ours. Back off.

El Matador isn’t gonna downgrade and he wants to go home next season anyway so moving to any club at this stage would make no sense.

It does seem pretty unlikely that United would permit Cavani to leave on a temporary basis with his contract expiring next summer, but if he isn’t getting the minutes he wants, a departure in the New Year can’t be ruled out.
The Uruguayan international was undoubtedly taken aback by the decision to sign Ronaldo and it will be interesting to see how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer manages the two players in the coming months.
