The father of Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz has claimed that the German international will be staying at his current club for the next two seasons.

There were reports in Germany this morning that suggested that Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea have all taken a keen interest in the 18-year-old.

However, Wirtz’s father told reporters that the plan is for the midfielder to remain with Leverkusen until the end of the 2022/23 season:

“Florian will definitely play a good role in Leverkusen for the next two years. What comes next is not yet known. His focus is now only on Bayer and the national team”

Despite the interest from English teams, though, it is believed that Bayern Munich are the favourites for the teenager’s signature, with the Bundesliga champions prepared to wait two years to get their man.

While it is not unheard of for German players to turn down Bayern, it is still very rare, so even if United do make a move for Wirtz, it is likely that he already has his heart set on a future transfer to the Allianz Arena.
