Manchester United legend Roy Keane has praised Jude Bellingham following his performance in England’s 3-0 win over Ivory Coast yesterday evening.
The 18-year-old started in an advanced midfield role at Wembley and, while others were debating his best position, Keane said that the teenager possesses the talent to play wherever he is asked:
“Play what’s in front of you. Whatever role you’re asked to play, he can do it. Don’t label him as a certain position. He can play a lot of different positions like a lot of good young players. The key for him is he is playing week in, week out for a top club in Germany. Every time he plays for England, he looks so comfortable.”
“He played tonight like he’s played 50, 60 times for England. He’s so mature, he’s got everything in his locker. Can’t speak highly enough of him. He’s an amazing talent. He’s going to be a mainstay for England for the next 10-15 years.”
United did hold talks with Bellingham before he made the switch to Borussia Dortmund in 2020, and there is still a chance that he could play at Old Trafford in the future.
However, with an asking price which is believed to be in excess of €100m (£85m), and with other teams such as Real Madrid and Liverpool also interested, he could well be one that got away.
Whether Bellingham will become a “mainstay” of England’s midfield for the next decade, we shall have to wait and see, but it’s clear that Keane (who is not easily impressed) is a massive fan of the youngster.
