Manchester United could still make a move for Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves before the transfer window closes tonight, according to the Daily Express‘s Jack Otway.

The journalist reports that a bid for the Portuguese international “hasn’t entirely been ruled out” but any offer is dependent on the club raising more money through player sales:

Neves is valued at around £45m by Wolves, and United are keen to ensure that their net spend does not exceed £100m. That figure currently stands at £120m, although the impending sale of Dan James to Leeds will help balance the books.

Even so, it would probably need another player to be sold for the Neves deal to become viable. Jesse Lingard would have been one of the strongest candidates. However, the 28-year-old is now expected to stay at Old Trafford with clubs unwilling to pay his asking price.

It means that, at the time of writing, Neves is more likely to stay at Molineux. Other teams, such as Arsenal, have also been linked with the midfielder so we shall see where he ends up.
