Ex-Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell is backing his former club to make a move for Manchester United attacking midfielder Donny van de Beek when the January transfer window opens.

The Dutchman has had very limited game time since his £35m switch to Old Trafford last year and Campbell thinks the player will be very keen on leaving Manchester if the Gunners were to make an offer:

“I only want what’s best for Arsenal and I believe Van de Beek can play, if given the opportunity. The boy can play. He wants out. I think this young man has super ability. He can play anywhere around the midfield – holding, at eight, and he can play attacking. We’ve got another one who is versatile – a plug-and-play player for us.”

If van de Beek does not get more minutes between now and the New Year, it is believed that he will try and engineer a move away from United. Whether he would be allowed to leave for Arsenal, though, it is up for debate.

Everton tried to sign the 24-year-old on loan back in August but United opted to keep the midfielder instead, so we shall see how they would respond if the Gunners made a bid of their own.

Supporters would love to see van de Beek being given more chances but current boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seems to have already made up his mind about the Netherlands international.
