Ex-Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is backing Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland to make the move to the Premier League next summer.

The striker has been linked with Manchester United, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich in the German press but Wenger feels that English clubs are the only ones that possess the finances to buy Haaland:

“I think that will happen. The economic power of the Premier League is too strong. English football is dominant because it is where the most money is. The best players always go the best way to make the most money.”

Although Haaland has a €75m (£64m) release clause, his representative Mino Raiola is demanding a £500,000 a week wage for his player, as well as £40m in agent fees. That means United, City and PSG would be his three most likely destinations.

Wenger believes the Norwegian international is worth it, though, as he says that the forward is likely to be the “next” player after Kylian Mbappe to be scoring consistently at the highest level:

“Haaland is likely to be the next high-profile goalscorer after Mbappe. He’s a super talent. His ambition, his will to score goals and the ability to fight in a duel [set him apart]. He’s there and wants to win, there is something in him that is great for a striker.”

With Cristiano Ronaldo now having arrived at United, it will be interesting to see whether United continue their pursuit of Haaland next summer.
