Former Chelsea and England captain John Terry has claimed that Wayne Rooney was the toughest Manchester United player he faced in his playing career.

Asked “Who was the most difficult Manchester United player you ever faced?” by a fan in a recent Twitter Q&A, Twitter simply replied:

“Rooney”.

Considering Terry went up against the likes of Ruud van Nistelrooy, Robin van Persie, Andy Cole, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Dwight Yorke and Teddy Sheringham during his twenty years as a professional footballer, it shows you how highly he rates Rooney.

England’s all-time record goalscorer hung up his boots at the start of this year to concentrate on his role as Derby County boss. The 36-year-old has made a decent fist of things after taking up his first management position.

Despite the Rams’ financial difficulties, he has won 11 of his 43 matches since taking permanent charge of the English Championship club. They are, though, still bottom of the table; mainly due to a 12 point deduction.
