Cristiano Ronaldo missed Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Aston Villa last night with a hip problem. He remains a doubt for the league game between the two sides on Saturday evening.

Manager Ralf Rangnick is, however, confident that captain Harry Maguire will be back fit and available. The centre-back has missed the last two matches with an abdominal injury.

Diogo Dalot needed stitches on his ankle following a robust challenge in the victory against Villa, but he is expected to be ready for selection ahead of the weekend.

Jadon Sancho sat out the match yesterday evening as a precaution after feeling muscular tightness so the winger could return for the trip to Villa Park.

Phil Jones should also be back in contention after being rested. His lengthy absence from competitive football means he is being eased back into things.

Paul Pogba won’t be ready to play until mid-February at the earliest. It was hoped that the midfielder would make his comeback from a thigh injury this month but his recovery is taking longer than expected.
