Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson is struggling to overcome the long-term effects of the virus and is unlikely to feature against Leeds United at the weekend.

Jesse Lingard has also recorded a positive test and is currently self-isolating so he won’t feature in the season opener at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Jadon Sancho will start first-team training today after returning late to preseason due to his participation with England at the European Championships. A place on the bench versus Leeds is the best supporters can hope for.

Phil Jones has fully recovered from a knee problem, which kept him out for the whole of last season, so he is now building up his fitness in preparation for the new campaign. New signing Raphael Varane is in quarantine after arriving in England later than expected due to visa issues, so he is a doubt for the Leeds clash.

Alex Telles (ankle) and Marcus Rashford (shoulder) have both been ruled out, and it means United’s starting eleven could have an unfamiliar look to it when they line up against their Yorkshire rivals.
