Ex-Manchester United striker Michael Owen is expecting his former club to lose when they face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this evening.

The Red Devils did play pretty well in the 2-0 win over Villarreal on Tuesday night but Owen feels that today’s opponents will simply have too much for them:

“Michael Carrick got the desired reaction from his players midweek, although this is a bigger test. Chelsea were awesome against Juventus. They’re defensively rock solid, something that you must be if you have aspirations of winning the title. I think Carrick will play the likes of Van de Beek and Sancho again here, but Chelsea, for me, are just too strong. I’m siding with the Blues to take all three points.”

Owen has gone with a 3-1 victory to Chelsea, which is a harsh but fair prediction, considering the form of both teams heading into the game.

The Blues have scored seven goals without reply in their wins over Leicester and Juve since the last international break while United’s humbling 4-1 defeat to Watford last weekend ended Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign in charge.

It remains to be seen whether Michael Carrick can form a game plan to stop their opponents but United’s players will be determined to make an impression, nonetheless, with new manager Ralf Rangnick expected to be appointed at the start of next week.
