Ex-Manchester United defender Gary Neville has questioned speculation linking former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte with the job at Old Trafford.
The Sky Sports pundit likened Conte to Jose Mourinho and claimed that the Red Devils would not go down that route again if they decided to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
While some supporters on Twitter took issue with Neville’s remarks, citing Conte’s superb record of winning trophies, the majority agreed that the club should steer well clear of the Italian:

Conte doesn’t fit United, it’s simple. You want to see Rashford and Greenwood at wingbacks???

True tbf. Ten Hag, Potter or Zidane for me

He’s better than Ole. But Zidane is the right man for this job.

He’s right though, Conte doesn’t stick around, is very defensive and can quickly fall out with upper management. Might be Mourinho V2.

For once something I can wholeheartedly agree with Gary on 👏👏

It’s a no brainer. Zidane or Ten Hag would be ideal

Mourinho wasn’t a fit either

Neville is probably right with his assessment of Conte. The squad has not been built to play a 3-4-3/3-5-2 system while there are many young players that need to be developed over the long term.
Other managers such as Brendan Rodgers, Mauricio Pochettino and Zinedine Zidane have been mentioned as potential candidates but, at the moment, United have decided to stick with Solskjaer. Performances will have to improve soon, though, or speculation about his successor will intensify.
