Manchester United opted against signing Saul Niguez and Eduardo Camavinga to prioritize a move for Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer, according to reports.
The Red Devils did not have the required funds to go after a midfielder and Ronaldo so, when it emerged that the Portuguese legend was available, they changed their plans.
Supporters on Twitter don’t believe it was an ‘either/or’ situation with many feeling that a midfielder was just as important as signing Ronaldo:
Not a serious club

United would have been at a far better place right now. Now they have a declining player with no CMs

To be honest with you, there were no guarantees that United would have signed either Camavinga or Niguez even if they had actively pursued them before the transfer window closed in August.
Camavinga, in particular, always seemed more interested in a switch to Spain, and he duly got his wish with a transfer to Real Madrid. In Niguez’s case, he made a move to Chelsea and the early signs suggest that United may have dodged a bullet on that one.
