Paul Merson is expecting a close contest when Manchester United travel to face Wolves at Molineux this evening.

The Sky Sports pundit thinks the home side were unlucky to lose their opening two matches of the season against Leicester and Tottenham, and he doesn’t believe United will come away with the three points:

“Wolves have been unlucky so far and deserved something from the game against Spurs. They’ve had around 40 shots in their last two games but didn’t manage to score, but who is to say a couple don’t go in if they do something similar against Manchester United? I’m not sure about Jadon Sancho but I think Raphael Varane could start this game, as his pace could be useful against the electric Adama Traore. This is a dangerous game for Manchester United and I expect them to drop points once again.”

Merson has gone with a 1-1 draw, which may surprise some United supporters, considering the firepower that manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has at his disposal.

It appears Merson is expecting a similar performance to the one against Southampton last weekend but, as he says himself, the likes of Varane and Sancho could be back in the mix for this game.

Molineux is certainly always a difficult place to go, but Wolves have been very blunt in attack, despite not being shy of shooting, so you would have to make the Red Devils the favourites. We shall see how the match pans out later today.
