Manchester United legend Paul Scholes doesn’t believe his former club or Chelsea will be genuine contenders for the title this season.

The ex-England international says he watched the 2-2 draw between Liverpool and Manchester City before the international break and he firmly believes that one of those two teams will finish top of the table:

“I think it’s between Liverpool and Manchester City, I do think there is three great teams [including Chelsea]. I think United have not fallen away, but it’s very early. I just think City and Liverpool, watching that game [between the two sides] the quality was just so high, I just can’t see any other team getting close to them.”

As Scholes says himself, it is still a bit early to be ruling out any teams from winning the title, so while his initial impressions are somewhat unfavourable to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, things could change as we progress through the season.

The Red Devils are just two points off first at the moment but they have a very tough fixture list coming up. Before the end of November, they will face Leicester, Liverpool, Tottenham, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal.

If they can get through all of those matches and still be in contention then Scholes may well change his opinion.
