Benfica striker Darwin Nunez got on the scoresheet in the Portuguese side’s 3-1 defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League quarter-final tie last night.
It wasn’t only the Uruguayan international’s goal that impressed observers, it was his ability to harry the likes of Virgil van Dijk that also led some to sit up and take notice.
United are one of several teams, including Arsenal, West Ham and Newcastle who are said to be interested in signing Nunez this summer, and fans on Twitter would definitely like to see him at Old Trafford:
Perfect player for Ten Hag since he is still not proven yet but has the raw talent

It depends on the incoming coach but I will love him to lead our attack next season

Yes looked very comfortable last night and was a pain for the liverpool defenders so that’s a good sign

Yes that’s what we need now not Harry Kane

Yes would take him in a heartbeat to start next season. These are the types of signings I want to see. Young hungry players who won’t break the bank in terms of wages etc. Will work to improve not overpaid egos. Not the finished article yet but with the right coaching will work

He took his goal well and he has a bit about him. Very raw though, needs to stay on his feet. Would take him if we were bringing in a more experienced, senior striker to lead the line as first choice.

Good striker with buckets of potential, if utd wise up and learn to develop talent then it would be yes, otherwise no because it would waste that potential.

At 22 years of age, Nunez is someone who is only likely to improve in the future. Considering he has scored 28 goals (including five in the Champions League) this season alone, it suggests he could be some player if he has the right guidance.
As some supporters have pointed out, with Erik ten Hag being known for developing young players, he would be relishing the idea of working with someone like Nunez. Reports in Portugal claim that Benfica could hold out for around €80m (£67m) so signing the Uruguayan would be a significant outlay nonetheless.
