Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick is “very interested” in Borussia Dortmund defender Manuel Akanji, according to Sport1.
The Red Devils boss will take on a consultancy role at the club in the summer and he is expected to recommend the Swiss international as a possible signing.
Akanji has reportedly rejected a €9.5m a year (£153k a week) offer to extend his contract at Dortmund, with the 26-year-old said to be demanding around €12m a year (£194k a week) to stay at Signal Iduna Park.
With negotiations seemingly reaching an impasse, he could be offloaded in the summer, with his current deal set to expire at the end of next season.
Dortmund are believed to be prepared to sell Akanji for around €30m (£25m), with United among “several” Premier League teams keeping tabs on his situation. Arsenal have been mentioned as a suitor in the past so they could be a potential rival.
However, Akanji is believed to be a good friend of Jadon Sancho’s so, if he does decide to leave Dortmund, a switch to Old Trafford may well be his preferred option.
