Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes will earn £240,000 a week (£12.5m a year) from his new five-and-a-half-year contract, according to reports in the UK.
The Portuguese international was being paid around £180,000 a week and while some fans on Twitter believe the player deserves the salary increase, others are not so sure:
Ridiculous tbh. Should at the very least be waiting for ETH to come in before giving out contracts like this./

I hope ETH gave the okay for this

I’m sorry but not 240k. Not even Salah earns that much for Liverpool. That is just outrageous.

🤭 club loves making shocking decisions!

Crazy, he’ll be 32 in 2027

Why? What has he done to deserve this? What trophies did he bring us?

Manchester United in a nutshell. No wonder we are in a rut.

Why? Just why? He has 3 years left on his current contract. Wtf is going on here. Our new manager might not even favour him, but united seem to love paying huge money for guys to warm the bench

I cant understand this, he has a contract till 2025, why is there a need for a new contract?

Fernandes’s original deal was set to expire in 2025 so there wasn’t an urgent need to offer fresh terms, and supporters are justifiably scratching their heads about the decision.
Not only is he being rewarded following a season where his form has been inconsistent at best, it comes at the time when the club don’t have a permanent manager.
You have to wonder whether managerial candidates like Erik ten Hag have been asked about Fernandes and whether they would approve of such an extension. If they haven’t been consulted, then it is a big risk giving out such a lengthy contract, as we don’t know whether he will fit into the next coach’s plans.
