Ronald Araujo has said that he is hopeful that his future can be sorted out when he holds talks with Barcelona this week.
The Uruguayan is closing in on the final year of his contract at the Camp Nou, and Manchester United (along with Liverpool and Arsenal) have been linked with a move to sign the defender. However, Araujo says he is keen to stay at Barca:
“I am very happy to be here. I am happy with the support of the people. We are working on the renewal. This week we have a meeting. I hope that it is resolved soon so that I can continue many years in this club. I want to stay here. Optimistic.”
Recent reports have suggested that there is a massive difference between Araujo’s wage demands and what Barcelona are prepared to offer the player, so the centre-half might be somewhat ambitious in hoping that his future will be resolved soon.
With United keen to strengthen their options at the back, they will undoubtedly be waiting in the wings to see whether Araujo can agree an extension. If negotiations do collapse, they could make their move to sign the 23-year-old for a significantly reduced fee this summer.
