Manchester United are very interested in recruiting Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante this summer but a deal could be difficult to pull off, according to The Athletic journalist Simon Johnson.
The website’s Blues correspondent has added fuel to speculation that began a couple of weeks ago when it was first suggested that the Red Devils were keen on signing the France international:
Now the #CFC takeover is officially complete, have a read about some of the ideas that the new owners have in mind, including some possible transfer deals both in and out:https://t.co/MRdslmN7OS

Johnson’s colleague Laurie Whitwell has also insisted United would pursue Kante if he becomes available, and fans on Twitter have been left scratching their heads wondering why the club are going after the 31-year-old:
This club always loves to sign past it players I just don’t understand…

Don’t want him , he is not a cdm and we have a similar player like him which is fred
Buying kante will be everything wrong with man united
We should rather look at Kone or sangare who are compatible midfielder types to what we need— BelugaOuix (@Aaditya_1237) May 30, 2022
Why Kante is so washed
— Aidan (@aidanmckernan1) May 30, 2022
Why do Utd buy old players from Chelsea just to let them buy a better younger version?
Matic and now Kante.
Shouldn’t the club try to sign some one around 27 who can play for at least next 4 to 5 years?
Is that rocket science?— Piyush (@TravelerPiyush) May 30, 2022
To old and had a lot of injuries last season.

Kante is still a world-class player on his day but injuries have begun to reduce his game time over the last two seasons. Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel expressed his frustration about the issue a couple of weeks ago.
With that being said then, you do have to ask whether United would be making the right decision if they were to secure Kante’s signature.
