Manchester United are committed to agreeing a new contract with midfielder Paul Pogba by Christmas, according to reports in the English media.

The 28-year-old has less than a year remaining on his current deal at Old Trafford and he will be able to discuss a free transfer move with foreign clubs in January ahead of next summer.

Pogba is thought to be more open to staying with the Red Devils following the signings of Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho, which he believes will make them more competitive in their quest for trophies.

For their part, United are said to be optimistic that a contract extension can be agreed, having been in deep conversation with the Frenchman’s agent, Mino Raiola, since the start of the season.

However, the cost of tying down Pogba could be quite substantial, with it being claimed that the midfielder is demanding £400,000 a week (around £20.8m a year) to stay at the Manchester club.
